This week I want to share a couple of treasures from my special shoebox. I have here a couple of stock certificates for 15 shares belonging to my grandfather, Calvin Buck Smedley, from the Bear Lake Phosphate Mining Company. One was dated 12 May 1921 and the other 12 July 1921.
The Bear Lake Phosphate Company began mining around 1920 and ceased in 1925. The property changed several hands after that. You can see photos and read more about it here.
Too bad we can't cash in on these -- ; D
Thsi treasure is quite invaluable and perhaps has more value then what it was worth if it was cashed [I am only guessing]. Happy safekeeping this treasure
ReplyDeleteDid your grandfather work for Bear Lake Phosphate Company? These are quite a find. No wonder they are in your special shoebox.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is out in the living room, right now, going through her box of "goodies!" from family, through the years. What wonderful treasures! Thanks for sharing, again!
ReplyDeleteKeep these ancestor stories coming!
Bill ;-)
