Treasure Chest Thursday -- Sound of Music

This record album isn't the actual one that belonged to grandma Dunn, but when I saw it at a yard sale I just had to get it. Just looking at the cover brings back treasured memories of hanging out with grandma.

Sometimes I would just sit in the dining room all by myself and listen to my favorite records among her collection. I loved listening to "How Much is that Doggie in the Window", by the Lennon Sisters, and "The Cattle Call", by Eddy Arnold.

There are two more albums of hers that I loved -- the soundtrack from the movie "Mary Poppins" which I hope to find at a yard sale, and the soundtrack to the Disney Movie "So Dear to My Heart".

If I remember right, I have her copy of "So Dear to My Heart" in mom's basement in Idaho.

  1. How fun! I think anything that evokes a wonderful memory is a very worthwhile purchase. I have purchased replacement records that I remember from my childhood.

  2. I now regret to have given away all the old records we had in our home. I gave it all away to when we were moving some nine years ago. Would have been nice to have at least some of them for keep sake

  3. Isn't it wonderful how a song can bring back a memory in just an instant! Especially wonderful memories. I, too, love to go to garage sales, and brought home a box of photographs over a year ago. If I worked at it consistently, I'd have them back with family by now, but I put them aside over and over again.

With the names on the back, though, I've been able to do some census research and locate some of the towns that the people lived in during that time. Now, I just need to see if I can find living descendants.
